Appointing Governors

Schools, PCCs and Trusts must have a clear understanding of the role of school governors in order to make strong appointments to governing boards according the needs of the board and the school. The process of appointment requires the completion of our Governor Recommendation Form and the prospective governor agreeing to the Code of Conduct.

We encourage current foundation governors and all prospective foundation governors, including ex-officio governors, to read our Governance Handbook which introduces the significant aspects of governance including:

  • Church Schools and Academies
  • Statutory Inspection of Anglican & Methodist Schools (SIAMS)
  • Religious Education and Collective Worship
  • Admissions and Premises Support

The Department for Education Governance Handbook is also essential reading for governors.
