Capital projects are those that take a long-term view on improving, maintaining, or altering your school site. They may include projects such as boiler replacements, roofing repairs or internal refurbishments/renovations.
Condition reports have been undertaken for every VA school or Diocesan MAT to help support the prioritisation of condition-related capital projects. These reports should be used in conjunction with your own school’s development plan to ensure effective planning of your site takes place.
Funding to support capital projects is available in two forms:
- School Condition Allocations (SCA) – An annual grant from DfE across a group of schools. Expressions of interest/applications are requested from schools each autumn in preparation for the next financial year
- Devolved Formula Capital (DFC) – An annual grant at individual school level which is typically held by ODBE or MAT on your behalf.
Every capital project takes time and there can be unexpected problems, even where careful planning has taken place. Therefore, it is important to have a team of people to work alongside you with the delivery. VA and Diocesan MAT schools are strongly advised to speak with the ODBE Development Team prior to undertaking any capital works.
